The seven of us were able to score a really good deal to visit Penida during the pandemic. Our driver in Sanur, Pak Agus, was prompt, corteous and he had his mask up properly the whole time. He dropped us off at the Sanur port where we waited 20 minutes before departing. Make sure you wear pants and shoes that you’re fine getting wet because you’re actually getting in the water to climb up the boat, so have a pair of dry shoes to change into as there is a proper port in Penida. The ride to Penida was an easy 30 minutes and upon arrival, I was greeted by Putu Semara, also had his mask up properly the whole time. The original itinerary was for us to go right ahead to explore the island but we asked Putu if we could drop off our bags with the reception of the Coconut Hill Cottage and sure enough he accommodated our request. Speaking of accommodation, this cottage is plenty secluded, comfortable and near everything (across the beach) if you want to wonder “down town” and the owners are super friendly. Putu did a great job with his explanation of the island and answering our questions. Some of us needed to pray at various times of the day and Putu went above and beyond to find a mosque and made sure that’s included in the itinerary. We saw everything from Broken Beach, Billabong, Crystal Bay, Diamond, Atuh and Monenteng Tree House – and a couple different times spotting of a group of Manta Rays =D. I think a minimum of two days and an overnight stay is a must to be able to see and enjoy everything. If you have time and need to get away from the hustle and bustle of Bali mainland (and if you want to see what Bali looked like 40 years ago) come to Penida and you’d want to stay an extra day just to enjoy the water activities (bring your snorkles and fins!)
My parents, kids and I had a 2 day mixed East and West tour and also a snorkeling trip. We had a very good time. From the pickup from hotel to the tour, the driver and guide were attentive and professional. The service from the tour agency was always very responsive too.
